"Save Youth Save Future" Foundation Organises Grand 'Youth Parliament' at Dak Bungalow, Sopore

Sopore, March 19, 2022:
The "Save Youth Save Future" (SYSF) Foundation organized a grand event titled "Youth Parliament" at Dak Bungalow, Sopore, aimed at engaging young minds and promoting progressive dialogue around social, educational, and national issues.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including SDPO Sopore Mr. Furqan Qadir (JKPS), Mr. Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of SYSF, Er. Mehraj Malik, a renowned social activist and educationist from Srinagar, and Ms. Anika Nazir, Head of the Women’s Wing, SYSF. The event also hosted two of Kashmir’s young achievers — Ms. Ishrat Akhtar, the first international wheelchair basketball player from J&K, and Mr. Shah Huzaif, a well-known Kashmiri trickshot artist.

Key Highlights:

1. Discussion on Social Media – Er. Mehraj Malik

The event commenced with a powerful discussion on the impact of social media, led by Er. Mehraj Malik. He warned of the negative use of social platforms by anti-social elements to spread radical ideologies and misinformation. Urging the youth to be discerning digital citizens, he stressed the need to evaluate content with objective neutrality.

“Social media must be used productively for spreading awareness and creating opportunities. Youngsters can build their own brands and generate income through various online platforms,” he said.

2. Women’s Education – Ms. Anika Nazir

Ms. Anika Nazir emphasized the importance of women’s education, sharing her ongoing work with young girls across the valley through her initiative "Taleem Haq Hai Hamara" (Education is Our Right). She highlighted the social barriers that continue to deprive girls of their constitutional right to education and called on society to actively work towards removing these obstacles.

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure every girl receives the education she deserves — without any ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’,” she added.

3. Youth, Police & Society – SDPO Sopore Mr. Furqan Qadir (JKPS)

Mr. Furqan Qadir, SDPO Sopore, delivered a motivating address on the role of the police and youth in building a harmonious, crime-free society. He pointed out that less than 0.1% of negative elements attempt to derail young minds for their vested interests, and it's the duty of the community to resist and overcome such influences.

He also discussed the growing threat of cybercrime and encouraged youth to report cyber-related incidents to the authorities, stating:

“Cybercrime is a real threat. If we want to build a safe society, we must cooperate and report any cyber threats without hesitation.”

He praised young achievers of J&K and encouraged youth to draw inspiration from them in contributing to national progress.

4. Personal Journeys – Shah Huzaif & Ishrat Akhtar

Mr. Shah Huzaif shared his journey of perseverance post-2016, describing how he stayed focused on his passion for football trick shots despite a difficult environment. His work has gained national and international recognition, including a shoutout from football legend Tony Adams on Twitter.

“Don’t lose focus, even if everything around you seems negative. Your hard work will speak louder than anything else,” he said.

Ms. Ishrat Akhtar inspired the audience with her incredible story of determination, explaining how she overcame physical and social challenges to become J&K’s first international wheelchair basketball player. She urged youth to never give up, no matter how hard the circumstances may be.

Closing Remarks & Felicitation

The program concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of SYSF. He acknowledged the efforts of the government and civil society in empowering youth and encouraged young people to stay focused and not fall prey to negative narratives or propaganda.

“Youngsters must develop a scientific temper and work towards a progressive, inclusive society. SYSF is not just an organisation — it is a family united for a common national cause,” he said.

In the final segment, Ms. Ishrat Akhtar and Mr. Shah Huzaif were felicitated for their outstanding achievements. Mr. Bhat and Ms. Anika Nazir urged the youth to join "Save Youth Save Future" and become active contributors to positive change in Kashmir.
