Today, on 1st December 2020, Save Youth Save Future (SYSF), in collaboration with the Indian Army, inaugurated the Women’s Kashmir Premier League (W-KPL).

The inaugural ceremonies took place simultaneously in North, Central, and South Kashmir, with young girls representing their respective teams competing in a T-20 format.

“The idea is to make sports gender-neutral. In other words, just as boys play sports, girls should too. There should be no taboos attached to young girls playing cricket. Let there be platforms at local and state levels so that they can eventually excel at national and international levels,” said Wajahat Farooq, Chairman of SYSF.

Hordes of spectators cheered enthusiastically as the young girls played cricket.

“There are societal notions in our valley that sports are meant for a particular gender and not gender-inclusive. Initiatives like W-KPL help us break free from such medieval mindsets and promote societal equity and mutual progress,” said Insha Bashir, skipper of Baramulla Swingers.

SYSF remains committed to its core values of women empowerment and societal integration and will continue to engage in constructive initiatives like W-KPL in its future endeavors.
